Google offer death benefits to employees

If a Google employee passes away while employed at Google, Google will continue to pay the family 50% of the Googlers salary for ten years!

"It’s been long reported that Google treats its employees well, from offering them free food and fitness classes to laundry service and car washes. But according to a recent report, Google recently rolled out death benefits to employees, including a generous offer to pay the spouse or partner of a deceased staffer half of their salary for a decade".

The news of these death benefits was first reported by Forbes — also comes with “no tenure requirement,” which means each employee in its 34,000 workforce qualifies for the benefit. Why would you want to leave Google now?

The benefits don't just stop at salary, and the surviving spouse of a deceased employee will acquire vested stock benefits, and children will receive $1,000 a month until the age of 19.

Are there eligibility requirements? It seems like if you start the job at Google tomorrow and die the next day, your family is still eligible.

Google said it is taking this approach because it is the right thing to do, ensuring that each employee’s family is taken care of if an unforeseeable event were to occur. We think this is also a very good strategy to retain talent.

The company's perks site hawks a "Corporate Concierge team [that] can assist with everyday tasks such as planning a dinner party as well as more unusual requests, like finding a jewel-encrusted scepter to accompany a Googler's special Halloween outfit."
But Bock told Forbes he doesn't like the word "perks." Instead, he says, what helps employees ultimately helps the company.
As he put it: "There is, of course, research that show employee benefit programs like ours can improve retention, and appear to improve performance on some level."
"WHEN IT COMES DOWN TO IT, IT’S BETTER TO WORK FOR A COMPANY WHO CARES ABOUT YOU THAN A COMPANY WHO DOESN'T."
